When to see a rheumatologist
There are many reasons why a person may want to see a rheumatologist. Some common ones include —
- Joint pain, stiffness, or swelling, which could be symptoms of conditions like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
- Autoimmune conditions, such as lupus or scleroderma.
- Inflammatory conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis or gout.
- Soft tissue rheumatism, such as fibromyalgia or myofascial pain syndrome.
- Osteoporosis, which is a condition that weakens the bones and increases the risk of fractures.
- Chronic fatigue syndrome, which is a condition characterized by extreme fatigue that is not relieved by rest.
- Vasculitis, which is a group of disorders that involve inflammation of the blood vessels.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or conditions, it is important to see a healthcare provider to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. A rheumatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
Unclear Diagnosis —
It should be noted that if you have been experiencing chronic pain or other symptoms that your primary care doctor has been unable to diagnose, you may be referred to a rheumatologist for further evaluation.
