Medical Checkup Policy
- Professionals, NHRA medical workers, Housemaids, Students and Expatriates who are coming to Bahrain, all are required to undergo the periodic medical exam.
- The individual will be examined against a number of diseases and will be issued a report that show whether he is fit or unfit for work.
- The medical checkup has to be done at an authorized health center like the American Medical Center.
- The issued medical report should be submitted to the prospective employer or relevant institution in order to apply for work or study permit.
Pre-employment Medical Checkup Rules
Every expatriate applicant looking for a job in Bahrain is required to undergo a medical checkup in their own country from an approved GAMCA medical center, and in Bahrain, they will have to undergo another medical examination before getting their Residence Permit (RP) and CPR. This medical examination includes the following:
- A detailed, comprehensive history, general and occupational.
- Visual activity, height & weight, Vital signs, and blood pressure.
- General medical examination.
- Chest x-ray for all ex-pats.
- Serology Blood investigation including HIV, HCV, HbsAg, and VDRL for all expats.
- Specific tests like audiometry, color vision, and spirometry could be added for particular special group categories or special risk groups. For example, pilots and ship captains require both audiometry & color vision reports. Audiometry is required for those who will work in areas where there is a lot of noise.
- Biochemistry for liver and renal function.
- Complete blood count.
- Stool R/M and culture to rule out salmonella and shigella.
- Other tests like Hb and sugar, etc. can be ordered based on the history and physical examination of a particular candidate.
